Missive 25: 26 February 2019, Tuesday
Greetings from our family to yours and Welcome to another TrailMagick89 missive,
Let’s have a look at Epilepsy once again for this missive. As you have read through these missives here we have shared with you our life dealing with Epilepsy. Kicking It Purple Epilepsy Coalition is a page on Facebook where we can go and gain encouragement when life is a bit tough and we need a pick me up realizing yet again this disease is a very serious thing.
From the very first post of Epilepsy Problem #1 “People don’t see Epilepsy as a “serious” thing, all the way through to the current post of #489 “After a seizure, being asked – “well, what did you forget?” As if to say, “I don’t believe a seizure would cause memory loss.” The Epilepsy Foundation, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, and International Bureau of Epilepsy are also great resources to learn more about Epilepsy.
The term “six degrees of separation” is the idea that any two people can be connected by six or few other people. That being said, you are connected, are related, or are friends with over the fifty million people with Epilepsy. This disease is deadly (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy); there is no known cure for Epilepsy: there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk after diagnosis. Brain surgery is successful in seventy percent of Epilepsy patients that have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.
The thing is that Epilepsy with Epileptic Seizures and Psychogenic non-Epileptic Seizures can come from any part of the brain with the possibility of more than forty types of seizures. I personally experience six distinct types of seizures granted two of them are classified as the same type of seizure, though their triggers are different as are the reactions that occur during the three stages (Aura, Ictus, and Postictal) of a seizure.
With all that information let’s look at the fact that we are always learning. And learning about a disease that kills more people than breast cancer and is ignored so much more. For the better part of the past centuries Epilepsy has been looked at as the people with Epilepsy were demon possessed. That is farther from the truth. If that is the case then many many people that believed Scripture from whichever religion they were a part of were not true believers. And that is a line I will not cross in deciding whether a person is a true believer or not. That is just as bad as looking at someone wearing hijab and saying they can not possibly be a Christian or someone wearing a crucifix and saying that can not be a Druid.
